In a correspondence, available to journalists today, the Delta State Police Command has arrested a commercial motorcyclist, Kelvin Ogaga, for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old girl he was trusted to transport to school daily and collecting a N500,000 ransom from her family. The suspect, who had been entrusted with the child's daily school runs, betrayed that trust on 18 May 2026 when he disappeared with the toddler after picking her up, according to a statement by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

The victim's father reported the matter to the police on the same day, alerting them that the commercial motorcyclist who was supposed to take his daughter to school had abducted her. The police immediately launched an investigation, and it was later discovered that Ogaga had contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N500,000 for the safe return of the child. After negotiations, the family paid the demanded sum to secure the release of the three-year-old girl, who was eventually freed by the suspect.

Acting on what the police described as credible technical intelligence, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), Sector 2, Ughelli, stormed the suspect's hideout in Ughelli, where he was arrested. Upon his arrest, the police recovered N127,000, believed to be part of the ransom money, along with other valuables allegedly purchased with proceeds of the crime and the motorcycle used in the abduction. The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.

The arrest of Kelvin Ogaga is one of several operational successes recorded by the Delta State Police Command in recent days. In a separate operation, operatives of the Department of Operations' Buffalo Team recovered a Beretta pistol during a stop-and-search patrol along the Power Line axis in Bonsaac. The operatives sighted a suspicious man carrying a black bag who fled immediately after noticing the patrol team. Although the suspect escaped, he abandoned the bag, which was later searched and found to contain the pistol and an iPhone. Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect.

In yet another operation, operatives attached to the Ozoro Division arrested a suspected cultist, Michael Monday, during a township patrol along Omovutotu Street in Ozoro. The suspect attempted to flee upon sighting the patrol team but was apprehended. A search of a black handbag in his possession led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size single-barrelled gun and one cartridge. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly belongs to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as "Aro Bagger."

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift response and reiterated the command's commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state. He also emphasised the importance of stop-and-search operations as part of proactive policing strategies aimed at curbing crime and recovering illegal firearms. The CP urged members of the public to report any suspicious persons or movement within their environment to the police without delay.
