President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally constituted the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, unveiling a 223-member team that places former Zamfara State Governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari at the helm as Director-General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as Secretary. The announcement, contained in a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, sets the stage for the ruling party's mobilisation machinery ahead of the January 2027 presidential contest. The composition of the council reflects a calculated effort to balance regional interests, reward loyalty, and deploy experienced political operators to secure a second term for the Tinubu administration.
President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima assumes the position of Vice Chairman I. The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has been named Vice Chairman II, cementing the party leadership's integration into the campaign structure. Senator Yari's appointment as Director-General places him at the centre of the party's campaign machinery, a role that will see him coordinate the day-to-day activities of the council and serve as the chief strategist for the re-election bid. Governor Uzodimma's designation as Secretary positions the Imo State governor to coordinate the council's secretariat, a critical administrative function that will oversee the logistics and operations of the campaign.
The council's leadership structure extends to the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, who has been appointed Deputy Secretary, and Hadiza Bala-Usman, who will serve as Assistant Secretary. The appointments signal a continuation of the party's reliance on experienced hands from the 2023 campaign, while also bringing in new figures to revitalise the party's electoral machinery. President Tinubu will work with a body of advisers comprising Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa, a team of elder statesmen and party stalwarts tasked with providing strategic guidance.
In a move that underscores the party's focus on regional balance and parliamentary support, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have been appointed Deputy Directors-General for the campaign in the southern and northern zones. They will work with Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau in coordinating the two geopolitical blocs. Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former Edo State governor and seasoned political mobiliser, has been named Deputy Director-General in charge of mobilisation, while the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will oversee administration as Deputy Director-General.
James Abiodun Faleke, who played a pivotal role in the APC's 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring. Faleke will coordinate zonal directors, including Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central, and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East. Stella Okotete, Abdullahi Garba Ramat, and Audu Maikori have been named secretaries of the election planning directorate.
The council's expanded list, numbering 223 entries, adds directorates covering finance, extractive industries, education, manufacturing and MSMEs, support group coordination, faith-based mobilisation, protocol, labour union relations, special duties, stakeholders' mobilisation, community support, digital operations, grassroots engagement, and welfare. Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has been named Director of Stakeholders' Mobilisation, while former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola will serve as Zonal Coordinator for stakeholders' mobilisation in the South-West. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, and his counterpart, Ekperikpe Ekpo, are listed as deputy directors of the extractive industry sector mobilisation directorate.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has been named Director of Education Sector Mobilisation, while the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, will serve as his deputy. Former Kaduna State Governor's aide and ex-lawmaker Shehu Sani has been listed as Deputy Director of Support Group Coordination alongside Muri Ajaka. The council also named separate directors for Christian and Muslim faith-based mobilisation, led by Stephen Adegbite and Sheikh Haliru Maraya respectively, along with deputies and secretaries drawn from both religious blocs. The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yerima Shettima, has been named Deputy Director of Labour Union Relations, working with veteran labour leader Issa Aremu.
In the legal directorate, Muiz Adeyemi Banire, SAN, will serve as Director, with Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala as deputies. Other members include the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi; former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema; Worgu Boms; and Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh. The media and strategic communication directorate will be coordinated by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, working alongside former presidential spokesman Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga, and Lanre Issa-Onilu. Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala, and APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka have been appointed coordinating Deputy Directors in the media directorate. Segun Dada, who held the position in 2022, returns as Director of New Media, with Solomon Arowolo as Secretary. The campaign also named five spokespersons led by Alake, alongside Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu, and Adamu Fanda.
In his charge to council members, President Tinubu urged them to work tirelessly to deliver victory for the party in the January 2027 elections and encouraged the leaders of the various directorates to reach out to other party members who may not have been formally listed to join their crucial efforts. "We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress. We are definitely out of the dark tunnel and are now at the cusp of reaping the benefits of a prosperous economy that will benefit all Nigerians," Tinubu declared.
