Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has openly expressed disappointment with some of his political appointees, accusing them of failing to defend his administration against critics on social media.
In a viral video clip obtained by our correspondent, the governor alleged that certain aides have been “eating from both sides” while remaining silent on platforms where his government is being attacked.
“We need to seize the social media space. It’s not as if they’re winning the battle, but some of you, my appointees, because they’re eating from both sides, they cannot even come out and defend the government,” Oyebanji said.
“Very few of them, they will be on platforms where they’re attacking us and they will keep mute. They won’t be able to talk and they’re collecting salaries every month. I’m marking them one by one… those of you that are on the platforms where they’re dragging us and you kept quiet, and you’re collecting money from this administration, we will come for you at the appropriate time.”
The governor’s remarks come at a time when political activities in Ekiti State are already heating up ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Governor Oyebanji, who is seeking re-election, recently received a major political boost as top figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsed his second-term bid. In a surprising twist, former Governor Ayodele Fayose of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also threw his weight behind Oyebanji, praising his leadership and urging continuity beyond 2026.
Political observers say the governor’s frustration reflects the growing importance of social media in shaping public opinion. While Oyebanji has maintained strong grassroots support, analysts believe internal loyalty within his camp will be crucial as the race for 2026 intensifies.
For now, the governor has sent a clear message: political appointees who fail to stand firmly by his administration online may face consequences.
