The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has been honoured with the ‘First Lady of the Year’ award for Healthcare and Child Support at the prestigious Humanitarian Awards, Magazine and Summit in Abuja.
The award recognizes her outstanding contributions to healthcare delivery and her unwavering commitment to child welfare through her flagship Healthy Living initiative, which has touched countless lives in Anambra and beyond.
Dr. Soludo’s work under the Healthy Living campaign has focused on promoting wellness, preventive healthcare, child nutrition, and maternal support systems. According to the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), the initiative has significantly advanced the fight against malnutrition, preventable childhood diseases, and lifestyle-related health issues in the state.
Pharm. Chisom Uchem, Executive Secretary of ASPHCDA, described the award as proof that “passion, dedication, consistency, and selfless service pays.” She noted that the recognition is not only for Dr. Soludo but also for the thousands of children and families who have benefitted from her health-focused programmes.
Since assuming office as First Lady, Dr. Soludo—fondly known as “Mmiri Guruegu”—has consistently championed public health causes. Her advocacy has extended from grassroots sensitization on hygiene and healthy diets to collaborations with healthcare professionals and international partners aimed at strengthening Anambra’s primary healthcare system.
This latest award adds to a growing list of recognitions for her work in child development and women’s health. It also underscores the rising role of First Ladies across Nigeria in complementing state-led healthcare policies with community-driven interventions.
The award also highlights a wider national conversation around the role of non-political actors—particularly spouses of public officials—in advancing humanitarian and developmental goals. In a country where child mortality, malnutrition, and limited access to healthcare remain pressing challenges, initiatives like Healthy Living provide both awareness and practical solutions.
Moreover, the recognition positions Anambra State as an emerging model of people-centred healthcare advocacy, with ripple effects for other states looking to strengthen their community health programmes.
Dr. Nonye Soludo’s recognition as ‘First Lady of the Year’ for Healthcare and Child Support is more than a personal accolade—it is a validation of the Healthy Living initiative and its measurable impact on families in Anambra.
As the ASPHCDA noted, this award is a stepping stone to greater achievements, and a reminder that consistent advocacy and community-focused health programmes can transform lives. For Anambra and Nigeria at large, it reinforces the message that Healthy Living will continue to win.
