The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly dismissed statements by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors suggesting that the ruling party is on a path to electoral defeat in 2027. APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the claims as baseless and an attempt to mislead Nigerians.
The remarks from the PDP governors followed their meeting in Zamfara on August 23, after which they issued a communique criticizing the APC as lacking vision and direction. In response, Morka said it is “laughable” for leaders of a party he described as being in “crisis and decline” to accuse the APC of lacking an agenda. He added that the PDP has already been rejected by Nigerians and is in decline.
Morka cited recent APC successes in by-elections as evidence that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are resonating with voters, noting victories in states traditionally controlled by opposition parties, including Zamfara, Adamawa, and Kano. He criticized PDP governors for “celebrating democracy when they win and condemning it when they lose,” emphasizing that election results should not be the sole measure of credibility in a democratic system.
The APC spokesman also urged PDP leaders to acknowledge the gains of the current administration, including the doubling of federal allocations to states, with N2 trillion shared as of July 2025, the highest in Nigerian history. According to Morka, the federal government’s economic reforms have benefited all states, yet some PDP-led governments continue to underperform.
He concluded by warning Nigerians against what he termed the “empty rhetoric” of opposition leaders, asserting that President Tinubu’s administration remains focused on national development and economic prosperity. Morka emphasized that the APC will continue its work to deliver results, urging citizens to judge the party by its performance rather than by opposition claims.
