Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reassured residents that his administration will complete all ongoing road projects, including those leading to Ukwa East, emphasizing his commitment to infrastructural development across the state.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Ezumezu Ndoki Patriotic Association, Governor Otti outlined challenges affecting certain roads, including the Akirikaobu and Obohia routes. He explained that previous administration lapses had delayed progress and highlighted measures taken, such as negotiating with contractors and redesigning structures to improve drainage and durability.
Regarding the proposed seaport in Ukwa, Governor Otti stated that work has not yet commenced because feasibility studies revealed extensive dredging requirements—approximately 19.5 kilometers to reach the high sea. He stressed that the project will only begin once funding is secured to prevent abandonment or delays. The Governor assured residents that all necessary approvals and partnerships are in place and reaffirmed that his government remains committed to the people of Ukwa East.
Community leaders, including the Mayor of Ukwa East, Mr. Chibunna Akara, and High Chief I.N. Ahunanya, praised the Governor’s infrastructure initiatives, expressed satisfaction with progress over the last 27 months, and pledged political support ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Governor’s transparency in explaining both technical and financial considerations highlights a pragmatic approach to development. By prioritizing feasibility and resource availability before project commencement, the administration demonstrates a commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure, ensuring that investments result in completed, functional projects that genuinely benefit citizens.
