Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, alongside his North East colleagues, joined Borno State Governor and Chairman of the North East Governors’ Forum, Babagana Umara Zulum, in a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
Also in attendance were Governors Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Bala Muhammad of Bauchi, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa. The high-powered delegation tabled the collective demands of the sub-region before the president, with emphasis on the urgent completion of 17 major road projects described as critical to trade, security, and economic integration.
The governors further appealed for the resumption of oil exploration in the Kolmani and Lake Chad frontier wells, insisting that such a move would unlock vast economic opportunities for the region and the nation at large.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum, Governor Zulum highlighted key roads requiring attention, including the Kano-Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt-Jos-Bauchi-Maiduguri Railway line, Bama-Mubi-Yola Road, Wukari-Jalingo-Yola Road, Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Damaturu Road, Damaturu-Geidam Road, and Gombe-Potiskum Road, among others.
Zulum commended President Tinubu for sustaining the fight against insurgency and noted that renewed peace was being experienced across the sub-region. He pledged the Forum’s support for the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in manpower development, technology-driven security, and agricultural expansion.
Responding, President Tinubu assured the delegation of his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and infrastructure growth nationwide, stressing that the concerns of the North East would be given priority attention.
