Student leaders representing higher institutions across Osun State have thrown their weight behind Governor Ademola Adeleke, endorsing him for a second term and declaring that his administration has outperformed the 12 years of APC governance in less than three years.
The endorsement came on Saturday during a packed gathering at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, where leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) scored the Adeleke-led government high in delivery of good governance and democratic dividends.
Speaking on behalf of NANS, Comrade Ayobami Solomon Abel, Chairman of the Joint Campus Council (JCC), Osun Axis, commended the governor’s visible contributions to state development. He stated, “As a student body, we are not here for praise singing. We are only here to acknowledge your good work as a Governor. The people of Osun are feeling the very positive impacts of your administration. Your dedication to the service of your people is second to none. I declare here today that your administration has performed far better than the 12 years of the previous APC government. That is a fact that is self-evident across Osun today.”
Backing this position, Comrade Adedibu Mustafa Akinsumbo, President of NAOSS, listed sectoral achievements covering agriculture, education, health, workers’ welfare, infrastructure, sports, rural development and cooperative empowerment. He stressed that Governor Adeleke’s performance has set a new governance benchmark in the state. “Across Osun State, the good work of Mr. Governor is acknowledged by all sectors of society. The workers rallied and endorsed you for a second term. The farmers approved you for a second term. The artisans, market men and women said you deserve continuation of the good work,” he affirmed, assuring the governor of continued support from the student community.
The students, singing solidarity songs and chanting aluta theatrics, echoed: “Adeleke, ma ba sere lo, ise re ma ntewa lorun o, Adeleke, ma ba sere lo” — meaning “Adeleke, continue your good work, we are satisfied with your governance.”
In his response, Governor Adeleke expressed appreciation for the endorsement, describing it as a source of renewed strength. “We hope some failed opposition aspirants can see what Osun people are seeing and acknowledging. We hope those aspirants who failed their people when they had the opportunity can accept their past failures and surrender to the wish of Osun people for Imole continuity,” he said.
The governor added that endorsements from workers, farmers, artisans, market leaders, students, and youths have deepened his administration’s resolve to consolidate ongoing reforms. “Eniyan and Olorun laso mi (People and God are my support base). On behalf of my team and government, we thank the workers, farmers, leaders of thought, artisans, market leaders, students and youths for appreciating and acknowledging our contributions to state development,” he added.
Governor Adeleke also announced new measures to support the student body, including the approval of two coastal buses for NANS and NAOSS, commencement of technical assessment of internal campus roads, and renewed attention to bursary matters. He further pledged to strengthen the Office of Students’ Affairs for effective service delivery.
“To all students and leaders on Osun campuses, we will not take your support for granted. In the nearest future, I hope to score extra plus A from the present A rating you have given me,” the governor declared, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.
