The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has criticized the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, accusing it of using allegations of “blackmail” and “cyber extortion” to deflect public scrutiny and silence dissent.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, October 19, 2025, and signed by the Director of Media and Public Communications, Wándé T. Àjàyí, the party described as “laughable and desperate” the remarks made by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, who claimed the state government was under attack from blackmailers.

According to the PDP, the Aiyedatiwa administration’s attempt to portray itself as a victim only exposes what it called “its moral weakness and growing panic over rising public discontent.”

“The only people blackmailing Ondo State today are those in power who have turned governance into a stage for deceit and self-praise,” the statement read. “A government drowning in scandals, opacity, and waste has no moral ground to lecture anyone about integrity.”

The opposition party accused the state government of hiding critical financial information from the public, urging it to publish the list of contractors, payment records, and the true status of the 2025 budget implementation, rather than what it termed “cosmetic figures presented to the press.”

The PDP further alleged that the administration’s claims of transparency contradict the reality on ground — pointing to abandoned projects, unpaid obligations to local governments, ailing hospitals, and deteriorating public schools. It also cited the ongoing two-month strike at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA) as evidence of leadership failure, adding that students were threatening to protest due to the government’s inaction.

“It is ironic,” the statement continued, “that an administration unable to justify its reckless spending now speaks of defending the truth. What truth? The truth that the government is on autopilot while the people suffer?”

The PDP condemned what it described as the misuse of the Cybercrime Act to intimidate critics, insisting that attempts to suppress free expression in the state would not succeed.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa should focus on governance instead of chasing imaginary enemies,” Àjàyí declared. “Ondo people did not elect him to trade insults; they elected him to lead responsibly. Truth is not defended through threats — it is proven by conduct, and this government has failed that test.”

The opposition party concluded by reaffirming its commitment to exposing what it called the “lies, waste, and hypocrisy” of the current administration, vowing to stand with citizens demanding accountability and good governance.
