The Plateau State Government has inaugurated a month-long entrepreneurship and skill acquisition program, “Skills for Wealth,” aimed at empowering youths with practical skills to boost economic self-sufficiency. The training, held at the National Youth Center, Lamingo, Jos, involves 250 participants drawn from all 17 local government areas, alongside a few non-indigenous residents.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, noted that the program aligns with Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s “Plateau People’s Project” and is designed to equip young people with skills in areas including ICT, agriculture, leather works, and fashion. The training is structured in two batches, with the first group of 150 youths and a second batch of 100 participants.

Ashoms highlighted the government’s commitment to youth empowerment, emphasizing that opportunities for self-sufficiency are a priority under Governor Mutfwang’s administration. The Ministry has also submitted a supplementary budget of N2 billion to support additional skill acquisition initiatives.

Participants will receive starter packs upon completion, including laptops for ICT trainees and industrial sewing machines for fashion and leatherwork trainees. Professional resource persons and medical personnel have been engaged to ensure comprehensive training and welfare support.

The initiative complements other youth-focused programs by the Plateau State Government, including agricultural empowerment schemes, support for state athletes, international educational sponsorships, and strategic skills training for exceptional youths.
