A fragile peace in parts of Katsina State has collapsed following a deadly reprisal attack in Kadobe and nearby communities, leaving at least 15 people dead and reigniting fears over escalating insecurity in northwestern Nigeria. The violence, which unfolded in Jibia Local Government Area, underscores the growing desperation among rural communities grappling with persistent cattle rustling, kidnappings and bandit raids despite informal peace arrangements.
The crisis began after residents, frustrated by repeated livestock theft, reportedly lost up to 300 cows to armed bandits despite an existing peace agreement.
