Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested six suspected drug peddlers during a targeted raid in Kauyan Dawo community, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. The operation was carried out at approximately 5:30 p.m. on May 9, 2026, by personnel of the 17 Brigade operating from the Forward Operating Base in Malumfashi, according to a post shared on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on his X handle.

Security sources told Zagazola that the joint team acted on credible intelligence about suspected drug‑related activities in the area. The raid led to the apprehension of six individuals allegedly engaged in drug peddling within the local community. The suspects have been identified as Sani Rabiu, 25; Umar Nasiru, 22; Abulkubus Aminu, 35; Abdullahi Halilu, 27; Abubakar Rabiu, 22; and Abubakar Dahiru, 33.

Items recovered during the operation included 82.5 grams of cannabis sativa, 15.7 grams of Exol‑5, and 1.8 grams of D5, a synthetic substance known to be abused as a recreational drug. Military authorities confirmed that the suspects and all seized narcotics have been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The raid on Kauyan Dawo was part of a broader offensive by troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, who also neutralised three terrorists and recovered 175 rustled livestock in coordinated operations across Matazu, Musawa, Kankia, Dutsin‑Ma and Malumfashi LGAs on the same day. In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the operations were aimed at dismantling criminal networks fueling insecurity across communities in Katsina State.

The troops have since handed over the confiscated livestock to local authorities in Matazu LGA for identification and return to their owners. The Theatre Command affirmed its continued commitment to aggressive operations against all threats to peace and security in the region and urged the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
