The trial of Nicholas Mutu, a sitting member of the House of Representatives, has been adjourned to December 8, 2025, by Justice F. Giwa Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The adjournment is to allow both the defence and prosecution to adopt their written addresses in the case.

Mutu, who previously chaired the House Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), faces prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside Airworld Technologies Ltd and Oyien Homes. The charges, totaling 13 counts, include allegations of money laundering and gratification amounting to N320 million.

During Thursday’s proceedings, Mutu’s lead counsel, P.I.N. Egwuatu, SAN, informed the court that the defence would forego the continuation of witness testimonies and instead adopt the evidence already presented. He requested additional time to file the defence’s written address due to prior medical appointments.

Justice Ogunbanjo granted both the prosecution and defence 30 days to submit their written addresses, with an additional 10 days allowed for replies. The court will formally adopt these written submissions when proceedings resume in December.

The case continues to attract attention due to Mutu’s position in the National Assembly and his role in oversight of the NDDC, a body often scrutinized for alleged financial irregularities.
