The Adara Development Association (ADA) has raised alarm over what it describes as coordinated attacks on Adara communities in Kaduna State, calling on the Nigerian government to take decisive action to halt the violence.
In a statement released by ADA’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Livinus Paul Jatau, the group decried the escalating attacks in Kachia and Kajuru Local Government Areas, warning that the crisis has now reached a full-blown humanitarian emergency. According to the association, hundreds have been killed, and numerous communities displaced, leaving thousands without access to farmland or basic necessities.
The ADA highlighted that the ongoing violence, which dates back to 2016, has persisted despite multiple peace initiatives. Between 2016 and 2023, over 200 Adara communities were reportedly attacked and destroyed. The association also recalled the kidnapping and murder of the Adara Paramount Ruler, His Royal Highness Dr. Raphael Maiwada Galadima, and the detention of community elders protesting perceived marginalization.
“The situation has moved beyond a mere security challenge; it is now a humanitarian emergency,” the statement said. “Thousands of displaced persons are sheltering under trees or in overcrowded host communities without access to farmland.”
While ADA acknowledged that the initial assumption of office by Governor Uba Sani brought temporary relief, the association warned that violence has resumed in a highly coordinated fashion, threatening to erase previous gains.
The association has called on federal and state authorities to:
-
Restore the Adara First-Class Chiefdom,
-
Establish permanent security outposts,
-
Provide emergency humanitarian aid, and
-
Launch an independent investigation into the ongoing atrocities.
ADA also appealed to humanitarian agencies to assess the needs of affected populations and deliver essential supplies including food, water, medical care, and trauma support.
“Every life lost is not just a statistic; it is a human tragedy that requires urgent action,” the association emphasized, adding that the Adara people remain peace-loving and law-abiding, seeking only to live and farm on their ancestral lands in peace and dignity.
