The Federal Government of Nigeria has addressed recent statements by former U.S. President Donald J. Trump, who alleged large-scale killings of Christians in the country and suggested Nigeria be designated as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

In an official press release (No: MFA/PR/2025/103), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that while Nigeria values global attention to human rights and religious freedom, the claims do not reflect realities on the ground. The release underscored that Nigerians of all faiths have historically lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully.

The statement reiterated Nigeria’s ongoing commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to combat terrorism, promote interfaith harmony, and protect the lives and rights of all citizens. It also highlighted the government’s intent to engage constructively with the U.S. to deepen understanding of Nigeria’s regional dynamics and continued efforts to maintain peace and security.

The press release was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, ANIPR, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
