The Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has openly criticized the conduct of highly educated individuals within the Nigerian government, lamenting that even professors and Ph.D. holders have resorted to celebrating mediocrity.
Speaking during a recent address, Sanusi described Nigeria as a “classless society” where intellectuals in positions of authority behave contrary to their academic standing. He warned that when highly educated officials turn to praise singers for subpar achievements, it reflects a deeper systemic problem within the nation’s governance.
“When you see professors and Ph.D. holders clapping for mediocrity, you know something is deeply wrong,” the Emir said, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability, competence, and genuine meritocracy in public office.
Sanusi’s remarks highlight growing concerns about leadership quality in Nigeria and call for a reorientation of values where expertise and integrity are genuinely respected and rewarded.
