Popular social commentator and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has sharply criticized former presidential aspirant Peter Obi for remarks regarding Nigeria’s security situation, accusing him of misrepresenting facts to undermine the current government.

In a statement shared on social media, Omokri alleged that Obi was attempting to resuscitate his political ambitions by portraying the nation in a negative light. Omokri claimed Obi and his supporters have been celebrating what they perceive as Nigeria’s instability and the potential intervention of foreign powers.

Omokri specifically disputed Obi’s statement on the handling of national security, arguing that terror-related deaths in Nigeria have significantly declined under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He cited data from the Global Terrorism Index, noting a drop from 7,512 terror-related deaths in 2015 to 565 in 2024, emphasizing that the reduction contradicts Obi’s claims of governmental incompetence.

While condemning any loss of life, Omokri accused Obi of lacking patriotism, alleging that the former Anambra State Governor had overseen extrajudicial killings during his tenure. Omokri also noted that Obi’s recent criticism followed his lobbying visit to Washington, D.C., in late September 2025, framing the timing as politically motivated.

“The fact remains clear that Peter Obi is a desperate liar who lacks patriotism and will do and say anything to advance his Presidential aspirations, including selling out Nigeria,” Omokri stated.

The commentary adds to ongoing debates over national security, political accountability, and the role of former leaders and aspirants in shaping public discourse ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming elections.
