The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, hosted Professor Charles Anosike, Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), at NITDA headquarters to discuss strategic collaboration between information and communication technology (ICT) and meteorology.
Both leaders emphasized the critical role of ICT as the engine driving modern weather forecasting, data collection, and analysis, highlighting its significance in enhancing climate intelligence, aviation, agriculture, the blue economy, and disaster risk management systems across Nigeria.
Professor Anosike showcased NiMet’s METEOWIZ, the agency’s first-of-its-kind, locally developed weather solution in Africa, a milestone achievement for homegrown technological innovation.
The two agencies agreed to formalize their partnership through a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will focus on digital transformation, data management, innovation initiatives, and capacity building. A joint technical committee will also be established to implement actionable projects that integrate advanced IT solutions into meteorological operations.
This collaboration aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, leveraging technology to drive sustainable national development and bolster Nigeria’s technological and climate resilience capabilities.
