Washington, D.C. — November 6, 2025 — The United States House of Representatives has called on the Departments of State and Treasury to impose targeted sanctions on individuals and organisations allegedly responsible for violations of religious freedom in Nigeria — including the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.

In a resolution passed late Wednesday, members of Congress cited growing concerns over attacks, killings, and displacement of religious minorities, urging immediate action under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act. The House urged U.S. agencies to identify and sanction those “directly or indirectly involved in orchestrating or funding violence against Christian and other minority communities.”

Lawmakers also called for increased diplomatic engagement with Nigerian authorities to ensure accountability and protect the rights of all citizens regardless of faith.

The resolution further requested the Secretary of State to include Nigeria on the list of Countries of Particular Concern (CPC) under the International Religious Freedom Act if significant progress is not recorded in addressing such violations.

The move follows mounting international criticism of Nigeria’s handling of religiously motivated violence and comes amid renewed global attention on security and human rights in the country.

No official response has yet been issued by the Nigerian government or the named organisations.
