Kardoko, Benue State – November 7, 2025: Residents of Kardoko in Benue State on Friday disrupted traffic on the Abuja–Makurdi highway, protesting persistent attacks allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani militias.
The demonstration, which started around 7:00 a.m., left motorists and passengers stranded for hours as villagers demanded stronger protection from security agencies. They cited repeated assaults by Fulani herdsmen in the area, which in recent months have reportedly resulted in the killing of at least 12 villagers, destruction of farmlands, and burning of homes across several communities in the state.
Stone Reporter News team observed security personnel in both army and police uniforms working on the scene to bring the situation under control. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the combined efforts of the Nigerian Army and Police eventually reopened the highway and restored order. Authorities have reassured commuters that travel along the route is now safe, with normal traffic flow gradually resuming.
The angry protest by Kardoko residents underscores growing frustration in Benue State over the continuing violence attributed to Fulani herdsmen, highlighting the urgent need for more effective security interventions in affected communities.
