The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 30th Session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (#COP30) in Belém, Brazil.
The diplomatic engagement, held from November 6–7 in the Brazilian Amazon, brought together world leaders, development partners, and business executives to discuss global climate action. At the Leaders’ Climate Summit, VP Shettima highlighted Nigeria’s renewed commitment to tackling climate change, describing the nation’s agenda as “not just an aspiration, but a solemn national commitment to preserve the planet for future generations.”
In a high-level thematic session titled “Climate and Nature: Forests and Oceans,” Shettima delivered Nigeria’s statement, “The Rational Soul of Nature,” urging global partners to recognize the economic value of nature and to channel substantial funding toward its protection and restoration through predictable, equitable, and accessible mechanisms.
Nigeria, through the Vice President, reaffirmed its determination to lead Africa and the world in climate solutions, emphasizing sustainable development and environmental stewardship as key priorities on the global stage.
