The Madina District Court II has sentenced two Nigerian nationals to 12 months in prison each after finding them guilty of attempting to fraudulently obtain Ghana Cards using false identities.

The convicts — 20-year-old Ike Isaac, who also goes by Alex Kwesi Brown Appiah, and 24-year-old Emmanuel Innocent Egbe, also known as Innocent Emmanuel Kodom — were arrested after presenting forged documents during the national identification registration process.

According to court findings, the two men provided false information to officials of the National Identification Authority (NIA) in an effort to illegally acquire Ghana’s national ID card. Their actions violated national security protocols governing the Ghana Card system, which has become the primary source of identity verification across the country.

Both individuals were subsequently charged with providing false information and possession of forged documents. After reviewing the evidence, the court found them guilty and handed down a 12-month custodial sentence to each of them.

The case highlights growing concerns about identity fraud and attempts by foreigners to infiltrate Ghana’s national identification system — a trend authorities say poses risks to security, data integrity, and public trust in the Ghana Card.

Officials have repeatedly warned that the NIA registration process includes strict verification mechanisms and that anyone caught manipulating the system will face prosecution.

The sentencing serves as a stern warning to others who may attempt similar fraudulent activities as Ghana tightens enforcement around its national identity infrastructure.
