No fewer than 20 out of 34 LGAs in Katsina State have reportedly entered into a new peace deal with bandits — but many residents are not convinced it will work.
Despite the agreements, fresh attacks have already been recorded in some of the affected communities, raising serious doubts about the sincerity and effectiveness of the deal.
This is not the first time Katsina has tried negotiating with bandits. Earlier peace pacts collapsed after gunmen breached the terms and resumed violence.
Residents say they’re tired of “recycled peace accords” that offer no real protection, especially with the absence of disarmament, monitoring, or strong security presence in rural areas.
Katsina remains one of the hardest-hit states in the North-West, and communities fear this new deal may also fail unless government backs it with real action.
