In a recent public statement that has sparked widespread discussion online, Very Dark Man (VDM), an outspoken activist, issued a strong appeal to Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi. VDM is urging Gumi to use his influence to help secure the release of schoolchildren and church members who were recently kidnapped by terrorists.
In a video message, VDM directly addressed Sheikh Gumi, asking him to "tell his terrorist friends" to immediately free the kidnapped victims. He specifically called on Gumi to speak with the terrorists holding the church members in Kwara State, who are reportedly demanding ₦10 million for each person's release.
VDM criticized Gumi for his long-standing relationship with bandits and insurgents, accusing him of sympathizing with these groups despite the violence they carry out. He pointed out that Gumi seems to have better access to the terrorists than the government does, and he urged the cleric to use that access to help free the captives immediately.
The activist also took a swipe at President Bola Tinubu, describing his response to the security crisis as slow and ineffective. VDM warned that if the government cannot act quickly to rescue the victims, Tinubu should consider stepping down for someone who can.
Furthermore, VDM called on President Tinubu to meet directly with Sheikh Gumi, believing that the cleric knows how to locate or communicate with the abductors. He urged the President to engage Gumi to find out where the kidnapped girls and church members are and ensure their safe return.
This outspoken stance reflects growing frustration among Nigerians over the rising wave of kidnappings targeting schools, churches, and rural communities. Many citizens are angry about the apparent inability of security forces to protect them or rescue victims swiftly.
So far, Sheikh Gumi has not publicly responded to VDM’s comments. His past efforts to dialogue with bandits have made him a controversial figure in national security debates.
As families anxiously wait for their loved ones to be released, VDM’s remarks add pressure on the government and religious leaders to act decisively and put an end to this cycle of violence and abductions.
