A confrontation ensued in Lagos after officers of the Lagos State Police Command allegedly defied a Federal High Court order directing them to vacate the premises of Nestoil, raising fresh concerns about law enforcement interference in judicial processes.
According to court officials, police personnel stationed at the property resisted the court’s sheriff who arrived to enforce the ruling. The officers reportedly fired tear gas to disperse the enforcement team, effectively blocking the court-mandated action.
The dispute traces back to earlier ex parte orders secured by First Bank entities—FBN Quest and First Trustees—over the same property. Those orders were later vacated by the court after it found that critical information had been concealed during the initial application.
Despite the court’s reversal of the ex parte orders and its directive for the premises to be vacated, attempts to enforce the judgment were obstructed, prompting questions over the impartiality and conduct of the police in a civil commercial matter.
The incident has intensified public concern about the recurring pattern of court orders being ignored or undermined, especially in disputes involving powerful corporate interests.
