The Taraba State Government has ordered the immediate suspension of boarding school operations across the state, directing all affected institutions to operate strictly as day schools until further notice.
Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas issued the directive in response to escalating insecurity and frequent bandit attacks targeting schools in parts of northern Nigeria. According to the government, the move is a proactive measure to safeguard students, teachers, and school facilities amid growing concerns about their vulnerability.
The decision follows a recent attack in Kebbi State, where armed men abducted several female students from a secondary school—a development that has heightened nationwide anxiety over the safety of boarding school environments.
In a statement, the Taraba State Government explained that the temporary switch to day schooling is part of its broader strategy to prevent similar incidents and ensure that learning continues in a more secure setting.
Officials noted that the policy would remain in force until the security situation improves significantly and more robust protective measures are put in place.
Parents, guardians, and school administrators have been directed to comply with the new arrangement as the government works with security agencies to strengthen safety around educational institutions statewide.
