The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has intensified efforts to dismantle illegal cannabis farms across the state.
In a series of recent operations, NDLEA operatives raided and destroyed expansive cannabis plantations in the Uzebba, Ohosu, and Ugbogui forest areas. Several hectares of farmland were cleared, processed cannabis was seized, and dozens of suspects were arrested.
According to authorities, the proliferation of illegal cannabis farms poses a serious threat to food security, as large portions of arable land are diverted from food and cash crop production. The state government says it will roll out programmes to encourage farmers to transition to legitimate agriculture.
Residents are being urged to assist security agencies with timely information as the crackdown continues.
