The wave of insecurity in Kaduna State has taken a disturbing turn with the abduction of Ven. Edwin Achi, a senior cleric of the Anglican Communion, Diocese of Kaduna, and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Achi. The couple, originally from Umuaja in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, were kidnapped on 28 October 2025 and remain in captivity weeks after the incident.
Family members and humanitarian advocates have expressed deep concern as the abductors continue to hold the victims, demanding an alarming ₦600 million ransom. A recently released photograph from the kidnappers shows Ven. Achi and his wife alongside several other abducted individuals—an image that underscores the widening pattern of mass abductions in the region.
The picture, which has sparked outrage and fear across communities, suggests that the attack on the Anglican priest and his wife was not an isolated occurrence but part of a broader surge in coordinated criminal activity targeting civilians.
Rights advocate and founder of Safe City Foundation, Harrison Gwamnishu, has issued a strong public appeal to the Federal Government, Kaduna State authorities, and all security agencies, calling for urgent and decisive action. He warned that every additional day spent by the victims in captivity compounds the trauma faced by their families and reflects a troubling failure of security structures.
Gwamnishu emphasized that the safety of citizens must remain the government’s top priority, stressing that the current situation is unacceptable and demands immediate intervention to prevent further loss of lives and to restore public confidence.
As the families endure uncertainty and mounting psychological pressure, calls are growing louder for a coordinated rescue effort and a renewed security strategy capable of confronting the escalating threat of abductions across Kaduna and other affected regions.
Security agencies have not yet released an official statement regarding the ongoing efforts to rescue the victims, but public pressure continues to mount as communities wait anxiously for tangible action.
