Hon. Ahmed Idris-Wase, the former Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has raised a serious concern about Nigeria’s security. On Wednesday, during a special session focused on the country’s worsening security problems, Wase disclosed that individuals connected to Boko Haram and other criminal groups were at some point found on official recruitment lists of the Nigerian Army and Police.
Wase, who represents Wase Federal Constituency in Plateau State and leads the North Central Caucus, warned that this infiltration of security agencies by criminals is a major threat to Nigeria’s stability. He stressed that such breaches could weaken the nation’s ability to protect its citizens.
He also mentioned that his warning is supported by Hon. Muktar Betara, a former Chairman of the House Committee on Defence. Wase explained that flaws in Nigeria’s recruitment processes have allowed dangerous individuals to slip into key security institutions meant to safeguard the country, making the fight against crime and terrorism even more difficult.
