Lagos State is taking a bold step toward transforming urban mobility with the introduction of the 70-kilometre Greenline Railway, a project aimed at reducing traffic congestion and supporting commercial growth along the Lekki–Epe corridor.
The announcement was made today at the Africa Investment Forum in Rabat, where Governor of Lagos State showcased the project to partners from the Federal Government, MOFI, and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
The Greenline Railway will run from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone and is designed as an electric rail system to provide a more environmentally sustainable transport option for Lagosians. The project builds upon the progress of the existing Blue and Red Lines and forms a key component of LAMATA’s Strategic Transport Master Plan.
Governor of Lagos State highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “The Green Line builds on the progress we have already made with the Blue and Red Lines. It is a key part of LAMATA’s Strategic Transport Master Plan and reflects our commitment to a transport network that is fully connected, easy to navigate and environmentally responsible.”
He further expressed optimism over investor interest, noting, “I am encouraged by the strong interest from international financiers. Their response has gone well beyond our expectations and shows real confidence in the direction Lagos is heading, in our governance, our economy and our infrastructure plans.”
The Governor emphasized the strategic vision behind the Greenline, adding, “We are shaping the future of urban mobility in Africa, and Lagos is moving forward with purpose and momentum.”
The Greenline Railway is expected to not only improve commuting times and reduce congestion but also stimulate new commercial and industrial developments along its route, signaling Lagos’ ambition to become a hub for sustainable urban transport in Africa.
