Lagos, Nigeria –The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PEEK Vision to tackle preventable blindness in Nigeria. The partnership will deploy digital eye-screening tools nationwide, strengthen primary healthcare services, and ensure real-time data usage for decision-making across the country’s eye-health system.
Data shows that preventable visual impairments—largely caused by cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors—continue to affect Nigerians. The initiative seeks to close gaps in eye care by training primary healthcare workers and integrating robust national data systems into routine health services.
Health officials explained that the program will not only improve early detection and treatment of eye conditions but also reinforce Nigeria’s universal health coverage goals. By combining technology with healthcare capacity-building, the partnership is expected to make eye care more accessible and effective for communities nationwide.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward reducing preventable blindness and strengthening Nigeria’s primary healthcare system through innovative, data-driven solutions.
