Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has ruled that the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele should be put on hold until the Court of Appeal decides on the eligibility of three witnesses. The ruling was made on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Emefiele is facing a 20-count amended charge filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF). The charges include allegations of abuse of office, criminal breach of trust, corruption, and fraud.

During the court session, the prosecution, led by Senior Advocate Rotimi Oyedepo, wanted to call three witnesses who had been subpoenaed to testify. However, Justice Muazu ordered that the prosecution must wait for the appellate court’s ruling on whether these witnesses are qualified to testify before proceeding.

The judge explained that the witnesses’ names were part of evidence that the court had previously struck out on March 20. The prosecution has since appealed that ruling at the Court of Appeal.

The case has been adjourned to January 29, 2026, for the next hearing.
