The Osun State Police Command has firmly debunked a widely circulated social media video claiming that a group of bandits was mobilizing to launch an attack on Ilesa, describing the content as a deliberate act of misinformation aimed at causing panic among residents.
In a detailed statement released on Thursday, the Command said its attention was drawn to the video after it gained traction online, prompting fears of a potential security breach in the historic town. However, after thorough investigation and intelligence checks, the police confirmed that the claims lacked any factual basis and did not correspond with the realities on ground.
According to the Command, no credible intelligence report—whether from internal security units, community vigilante networks, or inter-agency briefings—suggests any impending attack on Ilesa or its environs. Security operatives, the police stressed, have maintained consistent surveillance and patrols across the state, especially in border communities, ensuring early detection and prevention of threats.
The police described the creators of the video as “mischief-makers” who intentionally manipulated public emotions to spread fear and disrupt social stability. Authorities warned that circulating unverified security information is not only irresponsible but also punishable under the law, as it can trigger mass panic and undermine public confidence in the security architecture.
The Command urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that Osun State continues to enjoy a stable security atmosphere due to ongoing intelligence-driven operations. Citizens were encouraged to rely on official communication channels for updates and to report suspicious activities directly to law enforcement rather than amplifying unverified online claims.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Osun Police Command stated that it will continue to monitor the situation closely while taking firm action against individuals or groups spreading falsehoods capable of disturbing public peace
