Abuja, Nigeria – In preparation for the inaugural Nigeria International Airshow, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, today conducted a comprehensive inspection of the venue at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to assess readiness and supervise ongoing preparations.
Minister Keyamo was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation, Dr. Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, heads of various aviation agencies, and members of the Local Organising Committee. The inspection included a review of exhibition spaces, logistical arrangements, security protocols, and infrastructure to ensure the event meets international standards.
Speaking during the inspection, Minister Keyamo emphasized the significance of the event, noting that it represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation history. “Around the world, airshows are key fixtures on national aviation calendars — from Farnborough to the Paris Air Show. It is time Nigeria joined that league,” he said. “This airshow is designed to showcase our aviation and aerospace capabilities, attract investment, and create partnerships that will drive growth in the sector.”
The Minister further clarified that the Airshow is fully funded by private sector partners, with the government providing infrastructure and logistical support. “We are collaborating with private entities, but the government is not spending a kobo. This approach ensures commercial viability while positioning Nigeria as a hub for aviation innovation in Africa,” Keyamo explained.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the event, the Minister stressed that the Airshow would bring together domestic and international aviation stakeholders, including aircraft manufacturers, aerospace technology firms, and investors. He urged all relevant authorities to provide necessary support in logistics, security, and transportation to ensure a smooth and secure event.
The Minister’s inspection affirmed that preparations are on track, reflecting the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and its partners to deliver a world-class event that will elevate Nigeria’s profile in global aviation and open doors for investment, technology transfer, and international collaboration.
