Security operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State have arrested a suspected scrap dealer, Muhd Adamu, in connection with the unlawful possession of a large quantity of stolen electrical cable. The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the corps to curb infrastructure vandalism and protect critical national assets across the state.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, the arrest was made on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at around 3:00 p.m. when operatives acting on credible intelligence traced the suspect to his residence in Maruwa town, located in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

At the time of his arrest, security personnel recovered approximately 267 metres of aluminium cable believed to have been obtained through criminal acts of vandalism. The recovered cable is estimated to be worth about N573,300. Preliminary investigations revealed that the cable had been brought to Adamu’s house for safekeeping by two accomplices identified as Sani and Auwalu, both from Ruba village in the same local government area.

The suspect, a 50-year-old scrap dealer, was taken into custody and is currently being interrogated as part of efforts to establish the full extent of his involvement and whether the offence is part of a wider criminal network targeting public infrastructure. NSCDC officials said the two accomplices remain at large and warned that efforts were being intensively pursued to apprehend them and bring them to justice.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC in Jigawa State has issued stern warnings to individuals engaged in the vandalism of critical national infrastructure, particularly power installations, to desist from such illegal activities or face severe consequences under the law. The commandant reiterated that vandalism of essential infrastructure not only undermines economic development but also poses serious safety risks to the public.

Officials urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities, especially around public utilities such as power cables and electrical installations. They stressed that community cooperation is crucial to combating vandalism effectively and protecting vital infrastructure upon which residents and businesses depend.

The NSCDC emphasised its commitment to safeguarding critical national assets in partnership with other security agencies and through intelligence-driven operations. The corps assured the public that perpetrators of vandalism and unlawful possession of stolen materials would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

As investigations continue, authorities have indicated that further arrests and recoveries may follow as the trail of evidence is pursued. The case highlights broader challenges facing infrastructure security in many parts of Nigeria, where vandalism of public utilities remains a persistent issue affecting service delivery and community safety.
