According to a memo released on the 19th of May 2026, operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped victim, Jemila Ibrahim, and arrested five suspects linked to her abduction following a coordinated bush-combing operation along Okpege River Road in Iyuku, Edo State.

According to a press release issued by the Command, the rescue operation took place on 13 May 2026 at about 7:30 p.m., after security operatives intensified search efforts in forested areas believed to be used as hideouts by kidnappers. The victim had been abducted earlier on 10 May 2026.

Police confirmed that Jemila Ibrahim was found alive and unhurt during the operation. She was immediately taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and observation following her rescue from captivity.

The operation also led to the arrest of five suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping. They were identified as Nura Saminu, 24; Shaibu Isah, 23; Suraj Sabitu, 23; Yajubu Sagiru, 23; and Oseni Abdullahi, 26. All the suspects are currently in police custody.

Authorities stated that the arrested individuals are under investigation and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing inquiries. Police did not disclose further details about the circumstances of the kidnapping or the roles each suspect allegedly played, but confirmed that intelligence-led tracking and sustained bush searches contributed to the breakthrough.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the operation, describing the rescue as a product of coordinated effort and persistence in tracking criminal elements operating within forest corridors in the state.

He also assured residents that the command remains committed to the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes, noting that security operations across vulnerable areas in Edo State would continue to be intensified.

The police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the command is determined to ensure that all suspects involved in violent crimes are brought to justice, while also strengthening efforts to prevent future abductions.

The latest rescue adds to ongoing security operations across Edo State, where law enforcement agencies have repeatedly carried out bush-combing missions aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks believed to operate in forested and rural areas.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as police work to determine whether the arrested suspects are part of a wider criminal network operating within and beyond the Iyuku axis.
