A senior Nigerian military officer, Major S. Sayyadi of the Headquarters Infantry Corps Command (ICC), has died following a road accident along the Kaduna–Zaria Expressway near the Julius Berger gate, close to Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.
The incident was reported on Saturday, May 23, 2026, by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, citing security sources familiar with the development.
According to the report, the fatal crash occurred at about 6:00 a.m. on Saturday when a black Golf 3 vehicle allegedly driving against traffic collided head-on with a military Toyota Hilux conveying the officer.
Security sources quoted in the report stated that Major Sayyadi sustained severe injuries during the collision and was rushed to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna for emergency medical treatment. He was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The report added that the civilian driver of the Golf vehicle also sustained injuries and was receiving treatment at the same hospital as of Saturday afternoon.
Major Sayyadi was attached to the Headquarters Infantry Corps Command, one of the Nigerian Army’s major operational formations responsible for infantry training, doctrine, and combat coordination. The Infantry Corps Centre and School is headquartered in Jaji, Kaduna State, near where the accident reportedly occurred.
Jaji Military Cantonment, located along the Kaduna–Zaria highway, is one of Nigeria’s most prominent military training and operational facilities. The cantonment houses several army institutions, including the Nigerian Defence Academy’s training components and infantry schools.
The Kaduna–Zaria Expressway has recorded several fatal road accidents over the years involving commercial vehicles, private motorists, and security convoys. Road safety officials have repeatedly warned motorists against dangerous driving practices, including driving against traffic and excessive speeding along the busy corridor.
As of Saturday evening, the Nigerian Army had not issued an official public statement regarding the death of Major Sayyadi. However, military and security sources confirmed that the officer died from injuries sustained during the early morning collision near the cantonment gate.
