The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of 23 suspects, the recovery of a stolen HOWO trailer truck, and the seizure of large quantities of suspected illicit drugs during separate operations carried out across the state.

The operations were disclosed in a statement issued on Friday, May 23, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, at the command headquarters in Asaba.

According to the statement, the operations formed part of ongoing directives by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, aimed at intensifying the crackdown on criminal activities across the state.

In one of the operations conducted on Thursday, May 22, 2026, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations reportedly led operatives from the Department of Operations, Buffalo Team, and Okpanam patrol teams on coordinated raids targeting criminal hideouts, black spots, and brothels within the Okpanam axis and Asaba metropolis.

The police said the operation focused particularly around the Hausa Market area in Okpanam, where 22 male suspects were arrested during the raid.

Exhibits allegedly recovered from the suspects included 72 bottles of CSC Codeine, 11 packets of Tramadol, quantities of substances identified as Swinol and Canadian Loud, as well as weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police authorities stated that all the suspects and recovered exhibits had been transferred to the Special Enquiry Unit for profiling and further investigation, adding that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted according to the law.

In a separate operation, operatives attached to Operation Safe Delta reportedly recovered a stolen HOWO trailer truck following a petition alleging conspiracy, vehicle snatching, and theft.

The police said investigations led operatives to Ifite-Awka in Anambra State, where the stolen truck bearing registration number KK/192 XA was recovered. The vehicle was subsequently towed back to Asaba.

According to the command, efforts were ongoing to track and arrest suspects linked to the theft who reportedly fled before the recovery operation.

In another operation carried out on the same day, operatives of the Quick Response Squad in Warri intercepted a tricycle during a stop-and-search exercise along Esisi Road in Warri.

Police said a search conducted on the tricycle led to the recovery of 13 nylon bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

A 57-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the seizure, while investigators commenced efforts to determine the origin and intended destination of the suspected drugs.

The Delta State Police Command said the latest arrests and recoveries demonstrate ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat drug trafficking, violent crime, and organised criminal activities across the state.

Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information capable of assisting ongoing security operations.

He assured members of the public that all suspects found culpable after investigations would be prosecuted.

The police command also advised residents to report suspicious movements and criminal activities through the command control room emergency line, 08036684974.

Delta State, particularly areas around Warri, Asaba, and parts of Okpanam, has witnessed increased anti-crime operations in recent months as authorities intensify efforts against drug-related crimes, armed robbery, cultism, and vehicle theft.

As of Friday evening, investigations into all the cases were still ongoing, while the identities of most of the arrested suspects had not yet been publicly disclosed by the police command.
