The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false and misleading a social media report currently circulating that claimed the recent killing of late Major General Hassan Ahmed and the abduction of his wife near Abuja. In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the Army clarified that the tragic incident involving the late senior officer occurred on July 15, 2021, along the Abuja–Lokoja Road. Security agencies promptly investigated the matter at the time, leading to the arrest of the assailants and the due administration of justice.

The Army condemned the “irresponsible recycling” of the five-year-old incident by mischief makers, describing the action as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, create unnecessary panic, and undermine public confidence. The statement urged members of the public to disregard the false report and refrain from sharing unverified or outdated information. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to its constitutional duties of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace and security.

The clarification comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas, where bandits have recently carried out attacks. However, the Army stressed that the recirculated report does not reflect any new incident and should be treated as fake news.
