A traditional ruler from Warri, Delta State, has sparked public reactions after making controversial remarks about Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during a public address in which he questioned her involvement in national and regional matters.

The statement was made on June 6, 2026, in Warri, where the chief addressed a gathering and expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as the First Lady’s engagement in issues relating to Warri and Delta State.

Speaking during the address, the traditional ruler said the First Lady should not be involved in matters concerning the region, insisting that her role should be limited to domestic responsibilities. He said: “The First Lady Remi Tinubu is sitting in Abuja instead of her to be in the kitchen taking care of her husband and interfering in Warri affairs.”

He further questioned her response to insecurity in parts of the country, referencing reported cases of kidnapping in some regions, including Osun State and northern Nigeria. He criticised what he described as a lack of empathy toward affected families, stating: “Children are being kidnapped in Osun State and the northern part of Nigeria. As a mother, she has no feelings. Is that the woman who calls herself a mother?”

The chief also stated that the First Lady has “no place in the office of the presidency,” adding that her responsibilities should be confined to her family life. “She should take care of her responsibility by taking care of her husband and children,” he said.

He concluded his remarks by expressing frustration over what he described as interference in Warri-related affairs, adding: “We’re not mincing words at this point; we’re tired of the nonsense from the Itsekiris.”

The comments have since circulated on social media, generating mixed reactions from members of the public, with some condemning the remarks as inappropriate while others described them as an expression of frustration over local political tensions.

As of June 6, 2026, there has been no official response from the Office of the First Lady or the Presidency regarding the statement.
