The concerns were captured on June 22, 2026, in Abuja through field interviews conducted by correspondents covering transport terminals, fuel stations, and major road corridors within the city, where commercial drivers and private motorists described persistent variations in pump prices across different outlets. Respondents spoken to during the interviews said they expected a corresponding reduction in retail fuel prices following changes in the international oil market, but observed that adjustments had not been uniformly implemented across stations in the FCT.
Several commercial drivers interviewed along major routes, including areas around Nyanya, Kubwa, and Central Area, said the inconsistency in pricing has continued to increase transport operating costs. They noted that while some stations occasionally adjust prices, others maintain higher rates, creating what they described as an uneven pricing pattern that affects daily business planning and passenger fares.
The situation reflects broader public sensitivity to fuel pricing in Nigeria following the removal of petrol subsidies, a policy shift that has left pump prices more closely tied to market dynamics, including crude oil benchmarks, exchange rates, and supply logistics.
