The Delta State Government has officially dismissed widespread social media reports claiming that former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan is dead, describing the information as false, misleading, and harmful. The clarification was issued on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, by Ossai Ovie Success, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who confirmed that the former governor is alive and in good health.
The rumour began circulating on social media platforms on Wednesday, prompting concerned citizens to reach out to government officials for verification. In response, Ossai immediately contacted Uduaghan's family, speaking directly with his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who confirmed that her father is alive and well. In a statement titled “Former Governor Uduaghan Is Alive – Death Rumour False,” Ossai wrote: “I have just seen reports circulating online claiming that the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, is dead. Some people have been reaching out to me asking, ‘Ossai Ovie Success, is the news real?’ I immediately reached out to his family to confirm. I spoke directly with his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, on the phone, and she confirmed that the news is false. Dr. Uduaghan is alive”.
The governor's aide expressed deep disappointment over the spread of unverified information, condemning those behind the rumour. He warned that false reports about a person's death could cause significant emotional distress to family members, friends, and supporters. “Spreading fake news about someone’s death is cruel, irresponsible, and causes unnecessary pain to the family and millions of Deltans who hold him in high regard,” Ossai stated.
Ossai urged members of the public to disregard the rumour and refrain from sharing unverified information. “Let us show respect for life and for our leaders. Dr. Uduaghan is fine and not dead,” he added. The clarification has effectively put the rumours to rest, reassuring residents across Delta State and political associates of the former governor.
Uduaghan, a medical doctor by profession, served as Governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015. He later served as a Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District. The 2026 death rumour comes after a similar false report circulated in 2013, which Uduaghan himself debunked at the time.
