Agbor, Delta State – July 4, 2026 – The Delta State Police Command has impounded 31 vehicles in Agbor during a coordinated statewide visibility policing and enforcement operation aimed at strengthening compliance with traffic regulations and improving public safety.
The operation was carried out on Friday, July 3, 2026, in Agbor metropolis and surrounding areas, including major highways, entry and exit points, and border communities between Delta and Edo States. It was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations (DOPS) and formed part of ongoing efforts to deter criminal activity through increased police presence on major routes.
According to the police, the exercise was designed to reinforce enforcement of traffic and vehicle registration laws while also denying criminal elements the opportunity to exploit weak compliance systems for unlawful activities. Officers reportedly mounted checkpoints and conducted stop-and-search operations across key strategic locations.
A total of 31 vehicles were impounded for various offences, including failure to display registration number plates, use of obscured or covered plates, expired vehicle documents, and other breaches of traffic regulations. Authorities confirmed that the affected vehicles would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained enforcement operations across the state. He urged motorists to comply fully with vehicle registration and traffic requirements, stressing that adherence to the law remains essential for public safety and effective crime prevention.
He further noted that the operation reflects the command’s broader strategy of combining enforcement with preventive policing to reduce opportunities for criminal activity across highways and urban centres.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said in a statement that the command would continue similar operations across the state as part of efforts to maintain law and order and improve road discipline among motorists.
The Delta State Police Command added that sustained visibility policing would remain a core part of its security strategy as it intensifies efforts to curb crime and improve safety across all local government areas.
