The Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSCPWB) has commenced a sensitisation exercise across Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state, visiting council chairmen to appreciate their continued support and further seek their patronage for the upcoming 2026 Israel/Jordan Pilgrimage Exercise. The Board's team, led by the Secretary, Dr Okudero Gbolabo Omoniyi, has so far visited Yaba and Apapa Local Governments, with plans to extend the tour to other councils across the state. The visits are part of the Board's ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration with local government authorities and encourage greater participation in the annual pilgrimage programme.
At Yaba Local Government, Dr Gbolabo expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Adebayo Adefuye, for his continued support for pilgrimage matters in his constituency. He urged the chairman to facilitate the payment of pilgrimage fares to enable the Board to complete necessary processes on time. Dr Gbolabo also called on Chairman Adefuye to encourage his counterparts in other LGAs to invest in their constituents' spiritual wellbeing, emphasising that such investment aids stability not just in their jurisdictions but in society at large. He stressed that beneficiaries of the pilgrimage should be people who are spiritually inclined and willing to support their benefactors and the government through prayers.
In his response, Hon. (Dr.) Adefuye said his administration recognises the importance of renewal exercises in the lives of people and remains committed to supporting the spiritual well-being of his people. He assured the Board of his continued partnership and pledged to encourage eligible residents in his council to take advantage of the pilgrimage opportunity. At the Apapa Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo, stated that her administration is committed to the spiritual rejuvenation of its people and will support intending pilgrims with fairness. She expressed her willingness to work with the Board to ensure that residents of Apapa who wish to participate in the pilgrimage are given the necessary support.
The Board Secretary was accompanied on the visits by the Director of Operations, Mrs Kehinde Omisorei; the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Ebunoluwa Olagoke; Mrs Irene Olopade of the Operations Department; and Mr Adeseye Adedapo of the Admin and HR Department. The team has been engaging council chairmen in discussions aimed at increasing awareness about the pilgrimage programme and encouraging more residents to participate in the spiritual exercise. The Board has also been using the opportunity to address any concerns or questions that council officials may have regarding the pilgrimage processes and requirements.
Dr Gbolabo further stated that the Board has been consistently praying for peace in Nigeria and Israel and expressed hope that the pilgrimage will resume as soon as peace is restored. The comments come amid ongoing concerns about the security situation in the Middle East, which has affected pilgrimage programmes in recent years. The Board remains optimistic that conditions will improve to allow for the successful conduct of the 2026 Israel/Jordan Pilgrimage Exercise. The sensitisation tour is expected to continue across other LGAs and LCDAs in the coming weeks, as the Board intensifies its efforts to build a broad base of support for the pilgrimage programme. With the backing of local government authorities, the Board hopes to achieve its target of a successful and impactful pilgrimage for Christian faithful from Lagos State.
