Sokoto State has taken major steps to support Islamic education and empower religious leaders, following a graduation ceremony for Qur’an memorization students organized by the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Qur’an Memorization School, Sokoto State Branch.

Addressing scholars, community leaders, and residents, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto highlighted the state’s progress in promoting religion and strengthening faith-based institutions. He revealed that 65 mosques have been renovated, with 25 fully completed, and 15 new Jumu’at mosques constructed across the state.

For the first time, the state has introduced monthly salaries and welfare packages for Imams (Limams), Mu’azzins (Ladans), and Nai’ibs, ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000 depending on the needs of each mosque. Additionally, buses have been provided to all Islamic associations and institutions to support their community outreach and activities.

Under the new welfare system, Imams receive ₦200,000 plus 10 bags of maize quarterly, while Ladans and Nai’ibs each receive ₦50,000 and 5 bags of maize. According to Aliyu, these measures are designed to encourage and respect religious leaders while strengthening the institutions that preserve faith in the state.

Religious and faith advancement remains a central priority under Sokoto’s 9-Point Agenda, with the government pledging continued support for scholars, mosques, and Islamic associations to build a stronger, united, and faith-driven Sokoto State.
