Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims that he discriminated against certain groups during his tenure, insisting that the law was applied equally to all, irrespective of religion or ethnicity.
Speaking on the Southern Kaduna crisis, El-Rufai stressed that he would not allow anyone to feel “entitled” to break the law under the guise of religion or identity. He explained that just as he dealt with members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), led by Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, he also took firm action against offenders in Southern Kaduna.
“El-Zakzaky’s followers are Muslims like me, but I didn’t take any nonsense from them. They even consider me an enemy. How then can anyone claim I am a fundamentalist?” El-Rufai asked, emphasizing that his leadership decisions were not driven by bias but by the need to uphold law and order.
